DIY Snow

The other morning, B got up and went to the window and was obviously disappointed from the lack of snow. She said,

“Mommy, it takes a long time to snow, Christmas is over. I know! Let’s make our own snow!”

So we did.

I quickly found a recipe online for DIY Snow from GrowingAJeweledRose.com and luckily I had everything we needed.

All you need for this simple recipe, is

  • Baking Soda
  • Shaving Cream
  • Large Bowl
  • Vinegar (Optional)
  • Glitter (Optional)

You won’t need the vinegar till the end. We made the snow and played in it, and when they were getting tired, I poured the vinegar in to make it “erupt” which gave them a good laugh.

You start by adding the baking soda in a large bowl, I only had a small box of baking soda, and a larger box would have been more ideal.

Then start adding shaving cream, you will use quite a bit of this if not all of it. But add portions at a time and mix well in between adding more. This way you get the exact consistency you want. It’s very messy while you’re mixing, but the more you mix, the better it gets! Easy peasy!

When you feel like the snow is too powdery, just add more shaving cream! It even feels a little cool like snow, but obviously won’t freeze your fingers!

I even made my first ever YouTube video on how we made this! lol

Living in Miami, we don’t get much snow! My kids were just saying this morning that they wish we got a snow day from school. Will have to make some this weekend!
